This Privacy Policy explains how FittBeat (“FittBeat,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit fittbeat.com (the “Site”). It also explains the choices you have about your information and the rights you may have under California law and other privacy laws.
This policy covers the Site only. The FittBeat mobile app is governed by its own privacy policy, available at fittbeat.app/privacy.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email newsletter. If you sign up, we collect your email address.
- Contact form and email. If you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name and email address you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address (used for spam detection).
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect:
- Device and browser information, such as browser type, operating system, screen size, and language.
- Usage information, such as the pages you view, the links you click, how long you stay, and the site you came from.
- Approximate location (city or region) derived from your IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described below.
We do not collect sensitive personal information such as health conditions, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, or government identifiers through the Site. Reading an article about a food, ingredient, or health topic does not tell us anything about your health, and we do not treat it as if it does.
How we use information
- To run, maintain, and improve the Site.
- To send the newsletter you signed up for, and to respond to your messages.
- To understand which content people read so we can write more of it.
- To display advertising that supports the Site.
- To detect spam, abuse, and security problems.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. The Site uses:
- Essential cookies needed for the Site to function (for example, remembering that you dismissed a notice).
- Analytics cookies that help us understand how the Site is used.
- Advertising cookies set by ad networks to show ads and measure their performance. These may be used to show you ads based on your interests across other websites.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Site works. For advertising cookies specifically, see “Your choices” below.
Do Not Track. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common standard for interpreting it, the Site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. The Site does honor Global Privacy Control signals, described below.
Third-party services
We use the following third parties, each of which receives some of the information described above and has its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) for site analytics. Google privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Ahrefs Web Analytics (Ahrefs Pte. Ltd.) for privacy-focused, cookieless site analytics. Ahrefs privacy policy.
- Google AdSense and other advertising partners for displaying ads. How Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Our web host, which stores server logs including IP addresses.
- Our email service provider, which stores newsletter subscriber addresses and sends our emails.
- Apple App Store, if you follow a link to download the FittBeat app. Apple’s privacy policy applies from that point.
We do not allow these providers to use your information for their own purposes except as described in their policies, and except for advertising partners, which operate as independent businesses.
How we share information
We share information only in these situations:
- With the service providers listed above, to operate the Site.
- With advertising partners, through cookies and similar technologies, to display and measure ads.
- If required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of FittBeat, our users, or others.
- In connection with a sale, merger, or transfer of all or part of our business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, allowing advertising partners to set cookies on the Site may be considered “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out of this sharing as described in “Your choices.”
Your choices
- Newsletter. Unsubscribe anytime using the link at the bottom of any email, or by contacting us.
- Advertising cookies. Opt out of personalized advertising from Google at adssettings.google.com, and from many other ad networks at optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as California law requires.
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. You can also submit an opt-out request directly by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL] with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share.”
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”). We extend these rights to all California visitors whether or not the CCPA technically applies to us.
- Right to know. You can ask us what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, our purposes for collecting it, the categories of third parties we share it with, and the specific pieces of information we hold.
- Right to delete. You can ask us to delete the personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct. You can ask us to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. You can direct us not to sell or share your personal information, as described above.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect sensitive personal information through the Site, so this right does not currently apply.
- Right to non-discrimination. We will not deny you services, charge you different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised any of these rights.
Notice at collection
In the preceding 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA: identifiers (such as email address and IP address); internet or network activity (such as pages viewed and referring site); approximate geolocation (city or region, from IP address); and, where you provide it, information you include in a message or comment. We collect these from you directly and automatically from your device. We use them for the purposes listed in “How we use information.” We share them with the categories of third parties listed in “Third-party services.” We retain them for the periods described in “Data retention.” We do not sell them. Advertising cookies may constitute “sharing” as described above.
How to exercise your rights
Submit a request by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL] or by writing to us at the mailing address below. Tell us which right you want to exercise and provide the email address you used with the Site so we can locate your information. We may ask for additional information to verify your identity before responding; we will only use that information for verification. We will respond within 45 days, and may extend that by another 45 days with notice if needed.
You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We will require the agent to provide proof of your written permission, and we may still ask you to verify your identity directly.
Shine the Light
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 lets California residents ask for a list of the third parties to which we disclosed personal information for their own direct marketing purposes in the prior calendar year. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. If that changes, you can request this information by contacting us.
Other U.S. state privacy rights
Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. You can exercise them using the same contact methods above. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response and asking for a review.
Visitors outside the United States
The Site is operated from the United States and is intended for a U.S. audience. If you visit from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where applicable law gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, or objection, you can exercise them by contacting us. Our legal bases for processing are your consent (for the newsletter and advertising cookies), our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Site, and compliance with legal obligations.
Data retention
- Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Contact messages: up to two years, so we can follow up if needed.
- Comments and the associated name, email, and IP address: for as long as the comment is published, unless you ask us to remove it.
- Analytics data: retained according to the settings of the analytics service, generally no longer than 26 months.
- Server logs: typically 30 to 90 days.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We also do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption across the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to other sites
The Site links to other websites, including app stores and product pages. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Read their policies before providing information.
Not medical advice
Content on the Site is for general information only and is not medical advice. Nothing you read here creates a relationship with a healthcare provider, and reading the Site does not provide us with any information about your health.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will post a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
